How did you get involved with SGSNY?
When I turned 30 in 2020, I decided to turn my life completely upside down. In the midst of that transformation, a journey that involved living in and traveling through four different countries, I also graduated from King’s College London.
When I finally settled in New York in 2025, I found myself longing for that unforgettable British ambiance. I joined the NY UK Alumni Group and, following their recommendation, discovered the St. George's Society of New York. Anglophiles, unite! :)
What’s your favorite part of being an SGSNY member?
I admire the sheer diversity of events I have attended in a short period of time: a Central Park summer picnic, a fall volunteer event cleaning up a NYC park, a mid-season networking event for young professionals in a bar, and a UK winter holiday celebratory get-together.
There is never a dull moment and never a dull acquaintance! The members I’ve met so far have been great to connect with.
In addition, knowing that all proceeds go towards a very transparent charitable cause gives the whole adventure a deeper meaning.
How has being part of SGSNY helped you as a newer New Yorker (personally and/or professionally)?
Simply realizing that there is a community that gathers at British pubs in New York gives me a strong, mindful sense of belonging! Plus, if I find myself really missing my time in the UK, I know I can attend a St. George’s event to feel like I'm back home.
What’s your favorite place in NYC? Favorite food or meal you’ve had since moving here?
If you are a fan of pickles like I am, I highly recommend UWS Maison Pickle during their martini hour (which features pickle and other-flavored mini-martinis). I also love Jacob’s Pickles on the UWS; they offer a selection of 8 (!) pickled veggies and mini-Manhattan cocktail hours!
