A Sparkling Start: Launching the Patron+ Member Event Series

Bubbles of Britain leading a wine demonstration

On Wednesday, May 21st, SGSNY Patron, President’s Circle, and Lifetime members gathered for a Bubbles of Britain wine tasting at the home of former SGSNY Board Director Hannah Gräfin von Waldersee. The evening included a tasting flight of four British sparkling wines, conversation amongst old and new friends, and a moving speech by Scholarship Program alumna Dil Ruba. The event was the first in a new, exclusive series designed to add value and depth to our Patron+ membership tiers.

The tasting offered SGSNY members a rare opportunity to explore a lesser-known side of the wine world, since only a small percentage of English sparkling wine is exported. This comes at an opportune moment as England’s sparkling wine is gaining quiet momentum and rising out of its French cousin’s shadow, namely, champagne. Guests gladly sampled four carefully selected bottles, each introduced by Bubbles of Britain founder Kate Hamrick Foskett.

SGSNY Member and listening to Dil Ruba’s speech

The most memorable part of the evening was Dil’s speech, in which she shared her personal story about receiving the SGSNY scholarship. In particular, she underscored how the SGSNY community’s welcoming atmosphere allowed her to embrace her true calling—a meaningful career in the public arts. Guests’ hearts swelled upon hearing how the Scholarship Program helped Dil push cultural boundaries and step into her Learning and Development Coordinator role at The Metropolitan Opera. Her honesty and warmth brought a deep sense of connection and purpose to the evening.

As the event concluded, each guest received a curated gift bag with contributions from Bubbles of Britain and Walkers Shortbread - a perfect way to end the night. We’re are very grateful to Hannah and GvW Events for making the evening possible.

We look forward to offering our premium-tier members more experiences like this, which combine great taste, meaningful stories, and good company. Interested in attending events like this?
