SGSNY Community Giving Back: Thanksgiving Pie Drive

SGSNY Member Volunteers!

On Saturday November 22, 2025 15 members of SGSNY gathered in the chilly, but spectacular, doorways of St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. From as early as 8:00 a.m., our volunteers arrived armed with an impressive array of holiday pies, ready to slice, package, and share with members of the local community in need.

We were proud to participate in Saint Thomas Church’s longstanding Neighbor to Neighbor program, which operates every Saturday and provides breakfast to more than 140 unhoused New Yorkers. This gracious act of charity supports those in New York who need it the most throughout the year.

Gathering bright and early and after a brief round of greetings, we quickly got to work. Nearly twenty pies, generously donated by SGSNY volunteers, were carefully sliced and portioned into clamshell containers. Special mention to Laura Audus for that amazing home-made pecan pie!

Once we were done slicing and boxing up our pies, it was time to join the rest of the Saint Thomas volunteer team, many of whom devote their Saturday mornings to this effort each week. Once we were assigned our jobs, we lined up and got ready to start serving! Over the course of 2 hours, we served breakfast and pies to members of the community experiencing homelessness and took moments to chat, exchange stories and connect over life and its many twists and turns.

But the giving didn’t end there. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Josh Turner from Stand4Socks, we were also able to hand out 450 pairs of high-quality socks, something that is always in demand and deeply appreciated. Not only were we able to provide a pair, or two, to everyone who came down the line on Saturday, but there was also enough to leave additional supply with the church so they can continue distributing them in the weeks ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us on Saturday and to Saint Thomas’ Church for their partnership, both of which made the day a joy and a success.
