Member Spotlight: Josh Turner

Meet Josh Turner

Josh Turner is the founder of Stand4 Socks, a social enterprise and certified B Corp that makes premium socks with a mission: for every pair sold, Stand4 donates a pair to someone experiencing homelessness. Originally founded in the UK, Stand4 has expanded into the U.S. while continuing to combine bold design, comfort-focused sock technology, and measurable social impact. Josh now lives in New York with his wife and dog (Socks, the mini dachshund!) and is passionate about building community through purpose-driven business.

  1. How did you get involved with SGSNY?

I first learned about the St. George’s Society through David Drinkwater, a fellow Birmingham alumnus, who introduced me during my first week in New York. After that, it felt like the Society came up everywhere — every network I engaged with for months mentioned SGSNY. It also became a meaningful part of my professional journey here, as SGSNY was our first custom sock collaboration in the U.S., creating custom socks for the King’s Coronation.

  2. What’s your favorite part of being an SGSNY member?

My favorite part is the strength and diversity of the community — it really feels like a home away from home. I also love how SGSNY combines being a social club with real social impact. That “win-win” mission aligns closely with my own business values.

  3. How has being part of SGSNY helped you as a newer New Yorker (personally and/or professionally)?

Some of my strongest friendships and most valuable business partnerships in New York can be traced back to SGSNY.

It also helped my wife and I settle into the city much faster than we expected. We originally planned to stay for two years — but four years later, we’re still here, and we can’t see ourselves leaving anytime soon. It is a fantastic community.

  4. What’s your favorite place in NYC? Favorite food or meal you’ve had since moving here?

One of my favorite places in New York is certainly The Met — their guided tours are genuinely incredible. I must have done over 20 now and still learning new things, or seeing more corners of the museum.

And for food, I love Bar San Miguel in Brooklyn. It has the best happy hour in the city, and the staff feel like family — always welcoming and friendly. We go most Fridays nights.
