Nights Out in NYC

Moving to the “city that never sleeps” is an exciting step, even if you’re coming from a similar cosmopolitan hub like London. So much diversity and entertainment bring this city alive day and night, and the possibilities for meeting new people are endless.

Nevertheless, the bigger the city, the easier it can be to feel lonely without some good friends or a partner to lean on. Luckily, you’ll find a plethora of on- and offline networks such as St. George’s Society on hand for developing friendships. Or if you’re seeking something more, agencies like The Vida Consultancy can help.

The Vida team has put together a list of their favorite spots for an evening out with friends or a date night in the cold months ahead, so read on for inspiration…

  • Hit buzzy Italian trattoria Morandi in the West Village for a relaxed but chic vibe. It’s a favorite with locals and you may even rub shoulders with the odd famous face.

  • For drinks on New York's elegant Upper East Side, head to Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel. Oozing with Art Deco style, the warm colors and tinkle of piano music create the perfect backdrop for classic romance on a cold winter’s night.

  • The Meatpacking District is full of hip bars and delicious food. Check out the labyrinthine Chelsea Market for sampling an array of tasty treats then head to the Whitney Museum afterward to soak up some culture and American art.

  • For a “jeans and leather jacket” kind of night in the cool East Village, carnivores and pescatarians will love the American cuisine and cool vibe at Saxon and Parole, while vegetarians will also enjoy the weekday happy hour aperitifs!

  • For the best jazz and blues in town, head to the famed Birdland, in the Theater District. Drop in for a drink or Cajun-influenced fare and enjoy a mellow night of fantastic live music.

  • For a more exclusive night on the town, try the famous Rose Bar at Gramercy Park Hotel. If getting through the door doesn’t impress, the dark-lit interior, exotic cocktails, and live music will do the trick.

  • If the cold wind whipping around that corner makes you want to take shelter, head to Podunk in Noho for a warm, “country home” environment and one of the best afternoon teas in town.
